We spend so much time defending our actions: to our families, our friends, and ourselves. We have doubts about our goals, so we convince ourselves that it’s not possible. And we talk ourselves out of the best options because we are hit over the head with “why’s?” But for a moment, consider the “why not?”
Why not…go after your dream job?
Yes, there is a possibility that you won’t get it. But there is an even greater probability that some other door will open as a result of you just trying. Don’t look for an out because you are afraid of being turned down; take the opportunity and see where that road leads. Who knows, you may find an even better fit just around the corner.
Why not…be yourself?
Change happens, so make it a positive one into who you truly are. Embrace your quirks, and let your freak flag fly. Face yourself; positive change in your life begins with acceptance. Not just of the situation you find yourself in, but also how you got there.
And that’s what this is all about. Believing is knowing that, pass or fail, you will still achieve something just by attempting. Believing in your goals means you won’t stop until they have come to fruition. And believing in yourself means that you know you have the tools to make that happen.
Remove the shame, blame, judgment and guilt, and throw away the “why?” Focus on the “why not?” This week, when you feel yourself listing the reasons of why something won’t work, stop and consider that it could, how it would, and why it will. Attitude is all about perspective. Be positive in your outlook, and always consider the “why not?”
